Ok, I know that no one can replace the Great One in Barry Sanders. No Way! But I was just wondering if anyone else thought that this guy from Iowa looks, runs, and can be just as great as Barry himself. Fred Russell of Iowa, made a believer of me. Dam is guy is so quick, elusive, and all this being only something like 5'7. He has the similar size of Barry. Hey Detroit fans, you might want to take a good look at this guy. It might help you get over losing Barry. I dont know , just wanted to pass some time seeing what others thought. Aloha CC.

Hey I also noticed some more similarities between the two. Both are humble guys with big hearts and let their play on the field do their talking. But more of a similarity is they both have absolutely no hair style. They both seem to perfer the old school looking fro style. Very intriging if you ask me. Hmmm!

Co- Fred played high school ball 15 minutes from Downtown Detroit. I hope they take a serious look at him, we sure miss Barry.

Highdaddy, I have to say your wrong with that opinion. Russell will play on Sundays, that I am sure of. Want to share any reasons why you feel this way.

Russel lacks breakaway spead.. Look at the run he busted right up the gut, Sanders takes that to the house, not tackled by a safety (moving laterally) for a 20 yard gain.. Just something I noticed..

An unreal stat that Iowa had which I thought was simply unreal, given that their pass off ranked near the bottom of the nation at #106, was that Iowa over the last two years is 17-2 when Russell runs for 75 or more yards. 75 or more, not 100 or more or 100+ or more. Only 75 or more. This was unreal, and it should of made me take a step back and look at this guy alot deeper. Unfortunately, like many I got caught up in Florida and their QB Leak getting it done. This guy is so dangerous in running the ball , that it frees up the Pass Off to run their play action. Dam that is simply incredible and another reason that this guy reminds my of Barry. As Barry was so dangerous , that it opened up the play action as well.

co-captian, im in big ten country so i saw a lot of russell. he is very small, not fast enough, and gets hurt too much. the best he could do is be a 3rd down back and i still dont see it. One more thing, he is from michigan and wanted to go to UM, but even they passed on him.

i've watched almost every iowa game russell played in. one great thing about this year was that he stayed healthy the whole year. russell is a great back and very elusive. he can't break many tackles though and doesn't have the breakaway speed. what he does is wait for holes to develop and then can cut back on a dime.

will he play on sundays? probably... as a kick return man for sure. i think it would take the perfect situation for fred to excel at the next level.

Fred Russell yesterday rushed for over 100 yards in the Hula Bowl Game. He was also voted MVP of the game.

Kodiak, I agree RB Stephen Jackson of Oregon St, will probably be the most valuable back in the draft. He is a double threat both running and catching. Reminds me of Ederan James of Indy. Also reminds me of Roger Craig, who could both run and catch. He is definately a solid pick for any team.
